Every time I take part in these challenges, I tend to up the goals just a little -- only to discover that others have much more impressive goals and don't seem to have any problem fulfilling them. For instance, I'm usually doing well if I read 10 books. Other people seem to tuck away 20 with little trouble. Apparently, it's all a matter of context.Little good comes from comparing myself to others, though, so I'm going to increase my personal challenge a little further this time around. But I'm still aiming for what I think I can accomplish (making the title of this post slightly disingenuous). This fall challenge will require another balancing act between print and electronic, but I have the goal of reading books I currently own (or downloaded for free on my Kindle) to ensure that I get through my personal library. No reason to go out and buy books when I have perfectly good reads awaiting me :)
List, as follows:
Write Away, by Elizabeth George (tips on writing
The Cutting Season, by Attica Locke (reading/reviewing for TLC Books Tours)
A Train in Winter, by Caroline Moorehead (also reading/reviewing for TLC Books Tours)
Saint Silouan, the Athonite (writings of Archimandrite Silouan)
Electronic
How to Think About the Great Ideas, by Mortimer Adler (I plan to start with this one)
Wives and Daughters and North and South, by Elizabeth Gaskell
The Mayor of Casterbridge, by Thomas Hardy
This Side of Paradise, by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Vaganova Today, by Catherine E. Pawlick
Bread & Water, Wine & Oil, by Fr. Meletios Webber
So the list isn't necessarily longer, but there are some hefty books in here. (Silouan is about 500 pages. Gaskell and Hardy were also no slouches as writers.)
And that's that. Fingers crossed! Happy reading days ahead :)
